Marathon Finish

Running Accomplishments:

My personal best marathon was my first marathon. I ran the St. George Marathon in 2005, and finished in 3:14. I was hurting at the end, and had to walk too much between miles 22 and 26, but I finished. I had hoped to drop that time in 2006 and qualify for Boston, but hamstring pain and other distractions took their toll and I ended up finishing in 3:25.

Personal Bests:

  • Marathon: 3:14:53 (St. George, 2005)
  • Half Marathon: 1:31:02 (Hobble Creek, 2006)
  • 5K: 19:50 (Murray Fun Days, 2006)
  • 50K: 5:16 (Goblin Valley Ultra, 2006)
I don't know my PB for a 10K, but I've run a 10K in around 38:59, which may or may not be a PB. (I don't really like the 10K distance - too long to be a sprint, and too short to be an endurance run).

Short-Term Running Goals:

Get back into shape.

Long-Term Running Goals:

The Wasatch 100 in under 22 hours. Hell, ANY finish at the Wasatch 100 would be great.

Seeing as how I haven't run since 1972 I thought I did pretty well on my first attempt to get back into some semblance of running shape. I think that bike commuting has kept me fairly fit, but my endurance leaves something to be desired -- although somehow my third mile was my fastest mile this morning, it must have been mostly downhill.

Splits:

  • Mile 1:   8:00
  • Mile 2:   7:34
  • Mile 3:   7:04
  • Total:   22:42

I'll include a link to my GPS output once I figure out this new Garmin Connect thingy.

Aha!

Nice dude. How long did it take you to type all of that backwards? Next time this site:

http://textop.us/Text-tools/Reverse-Text

It will automatically esrever it for you, and maybe you won't have so many typos.

I don't know why, but as long as I am typing on this site today it is typing it in backwards and with the letters mixed up. I had to copy and paste this in from Word to get it to work. What I meant to say was, welcome to the blog. Glad to see another trailrunner.

Well, that's weird. I've never heard of something like that happening.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been here on and off for years, but I haven't run in awhile due to overwhelming laziness. I need to get back into better shape, and get my mileage back up.

Hopefully I'll get off the street, and onto the trails soon. The logistics of getting to and from the trails and back home in time to shower and bike to work means I have to wake up way earlier than I care to.

Do you live closer to downtown or are you more south then that? I’m in Holladay and me and a couple of friends get out on Tuesdays and Thursdays pretty early, usually between 5 and 6am. You are certainly welcome to join us. We always hit the trails, either in Millcreek or up BCC. We would gladly make trips down to places like the Avenues (BST) or Red Butte area. All of that stuff is cool. Plus, maybe if we come downtown I’ll finally get to wrestle a mountain lion.

I'm in Sugar House, just a few blocks north of Sugar House Park. My favorite trail running areas that are (somewhat) close to my house are City Creek Canyon, BST near the U of U, and Millcreek. Although now that Millcreek raised the fees I don't get up there as much as I used to.

It looks like you guys are running further than I'm comfortable with right now, but I appreciate the offer.
